Group Health vs Individual Plans

If you own a small business and provide health insurance for your employees, you will want to compare the costs of health insurance plans. Work with your agent at the Boss Insurance Agency in Kingwood, TX, to find a health insurance plan to suit your needs.

Group Health Insurance

There are many types of group health insurance plans. The concept behind a group health plan is to have more members participate to spread the risks and help manage the costs. You probably want to compare having an HMO versus a PPO plan.

What is an HMO?

An HMO is a Health Maintenance Organization. Members of an HMO receive health care directly from the HMO and the healthcare providers that work for the HMO. When you have an HMO plan, you go to their buildings and see their doctors.

What is a PPO?

A PPO is a Preferred Provider Organization. The group health insurance plan contracts with certain healthcare providers, such as doctors, hospitals, and clinics, to be able to offer its members a discount for using the services of those in the network.

Members of a PPO can see healthcare providers that are "in-network" at a reduced rate and may also see other providers that are out-of-network by paying a co-pay for the higher price.

What About Individual Health Care Plans?

Individual health care plans are for a single person or the members of a related family. They may be more costly than having a group plan.

And Medicare?

Medicare is a national group health insurance for those over 65. There is Part A covering hospital stays and Part B for seeing a doctor. There are other optional add-ons for Medicare available for an additional monthly premium payment. Talk to our agent about the details.
